If you don't know what this means.. You don't play video games. The last bastion of hope for PC gaming, VALVE, has decided to become sellouts. The already rediculous nitpicking method of making people wait 300+ hours just to get 1 item namely a hat for their virtual dolls seems a bit overkill, and the drama around exploits obtaining these items lead to many people being banned. Lets not forget time limited items.
If you play PC games you know the reference of what TF2 means when it comes to HATS. Stupid little dress up doll items for an imbalanced 24/7 push styled game. Its too hard and complex for casuals to comprehend a 2fort styled game actually involving 2 forts. So to give you an idea, the userbase for TF2 is VERY casual. Much like the users of WOW, they try to argue that the game requires skill, it is pretty hard to argue about skill when you are running around in pixar styled characters that seemed to have jumped out of the nearest kids' movie.
What does this mean? The backlash i can only imagine. Valve has earned A LOT of currency on their friendly likeable cast of casual games, Left 4 dead + TF2. Left4Dead itself has bombed due to being rushed out of the front door, more people play the original over the sequel and they are trying to sell the sequel for like 7 dollars now, and have been known to hand out that sequel title for compensation to banning wrongfully.
I am not ranting, this is honestly relevent. Because Left4Dead got milked to death by EA(publishers of Left4Dead) , they needed to turn to a franchise that is still alive, which would be TF2. It is always praised, only for its content updates which were free. "were" being the key word. Now the game has turned for the worse. Now it is a cash shop game, similar to something you'd see in a f2p korean game. Now you understand the reason for all those "community" events, they need to build a playerbase before dropping their load onto them, which is a big load of SHIT.
Now it seems very relevant as to why minecraft developer notch has been fishing for publishers like steam, he has a playerbase of 200k+ users, which publishers desperately need to sell games to.

Quick update
Forewarning- This is a personal note for anyone that will be reading this:
Friday i knew the dead rising 2 game would be leaked properly online, so i took myself an afternoon off. Got myself a nice large pizza, soda, and relative coming back from vacation the next day, i played the HELL out of dead rising 2.
On another note, about 2 days ago i got the external harddrive casing for my 500 gig to use for ps3 when i jailbreak it. It was the wrong one , :( , so i lost like 15 bucks having to ship it back . There are literally no compusa places nearby, the closest is in delaware, 2 states away, so online is the only method. (I don't see why people prefer online methods, its just too much to deal with , restocking fees, charging delivery, waiting , not 100% sure if itll work, no customer support on whether or not it WILL work. etc etc)
So monday i should get both a usb hub, (cost like 15 bucks, didnt want one that would overheat or slow down transfer rate from harddrive to ps3 (because all the games will run off that harddrive). And the right external casing, its a cheap one. The only other option was like a 40$ one, that looked like just a flashy piece of crap..
And the best part, finally the chinese reseller decided to ship the part i ordered. Ill go google about and see if anyone has properly reviewed the ps3yes other than this one dude (which could have been marketting rep)
update: doesnt look like any other people have legitimately reviewed it on a website, ill check forums later

PC users screwed again!
Guess what? If you're in europe, you cannot play this game on the PC edition this weekend. The GFWL unlock process has been postponed until MONDAY. Many people in forums like gamefaqs are reporting walking into the store on this friday morning, getting the game, putting it into their PC and expecting to play the product that they paid with their hard earned money for. Well too bad! Supposedly it will not allow anyone in europe to play until monday.
UPDATE: POLAND PC EDITION IS RELEASED NOW, SCREENSHOTS ARE POSTED HERE http://img827.imageshack.us/i/314f.jpg/
http://img844.imageshack.us/i/53141f.jpg/
http://img696.imageshack.us/i/deer2.jpg/
http://img202.imageshack.us/i/dyry2.jpg/
I am going to assume this will somehow be carried over for PC until monday as well. Since the PC edition is not unlocked in USA until the 26 right now anyway.
Bottom line:
First this shitty blog type format is annoying me, its very hard to write out a blog because half the stuff is not responding properly.
Next would be this issue with PC, I believe as more games keep moving in this direction, trying to treat it like their product isn't an actual product, but an IP, that means developers get away with so much more freedom in screwing over people who are putting over their hard each cash for products like these. As publishers slowly try to push games towards digital distribution and start locking away more and more content "on disc" and charging 9.99$ in "dlc" for it, things like this will occur more frequently. A common reference for how shady developers and publishers are getting, check out the various reports on Mafia 2.
Apparently those who own the ps3 and 360 version report huge slowdowns, huge issues, IGN claims this issue has been solved, but people posting for 360 version says it has not and there are slowdowns all over.

Don't buy PS3Key, its a sham! (also blockbuster declaring bankruptcy soon)
LINK
In a type of update, I don't believe I will regularly post specific news of very specific resources/niche market because I think it will just flood my blog with too much needless information.
But to sum it up briefly, PS3Key is flawed as hell, being produced poorly and known to cause a buttload of issues. And the recommended thing to do? Busting out a soldering iron of course..
I don't want to post useless pictures, and such, you can see them on the site linked at the very top. They show in detail the issues, and ways to fix it. As i suggested earlier , you should not buy a ps3key, and to reiterate that point retailershave stopped selling the PS3key due to customer complaints. Convince you enough yet? Ill post my personal experience with this PS3Yes when mine actually is received, there is some sort of chinese holiday going on, so my product will be delayed, my external harddrive housing will be arriving probably tomarrow.
Also in an unrelated , kind of important for a gamer.
Blockbuster seems to be on the verge of declaring bankruptcy. If you need proof, go google it further. But inside sources are reporting they will file for chapter 11 in the next coming months. Shame, because i was going to rely on blockbuster to get my copies of games to write to my external harddrive. That way i could have gotten a 1 time month membership and just kept coming in and out with a different game, writing to my drive, and returning it, its faster than downloading on my POS internet connection.

Sony makes move to fight piracy
LINK
To sum up the situation so you dont need to read a 500 page thread, sony's latest 3.50 update (i believe) causes the majority of third party usb peripherals to not work with a ps3 ever again.
Apparently this also means the majority of Mad Catz controllers. This is in response to the 10-15 new types of third party ps3 jailbreaking usb drives being released into the market.
What does this mean? I can only assume the backlash will be HUGE. To speculate, there will need to be dealings between mad catz and sony. And possibly changes in policy after the shit hits the fan. Its still brewing, so its not into the press yet. Most do not know. The majority of press junkies own 360s because they are casuals, and they only review 360 games. I can assume also many gaming news outlets will report on this later.
What feature is next to be removed by sony?

This is an old post, only referenced to me earlier today. There will be no North American retail release for Dead rising 2. Only a limited stock will be offered.
By today's standards, when you pay for something you expect it to be delivered to you and for you to physically own the product. Not anymore! Want to physically own your game? Too bad ! Want to have more than just a cd key when you put down 45 dollars ? Too bad!
Ain't life grand?

Gamespot Demo Giveaway Screwup!
Around 10 : 30 - 10:20 PM EST , the grand idiots over at gamespot decided to start their Early Access demo that was a Gamespot Exclusive. If i honestly cared about this game, i would have gotten in on the free game too! Its really a simple story here, instead of dishing out what they were supposed to , which was early access to the game's demo via product codes, they started dishing out what apparently was the legitimate cd keys to full copies of the game.
Bottom Line:
Free brand new games that are not even out in stores yet? sign me up ,,, er.. As a real gamer, i couldn't care less about games or things for free, a piece of crap for free is still a piece of crap. Kudos to those who honestly care about lara croft and got it, i just checked it out after someone posted about it.

Ps3 Jailbreaking market free-for-all and why you should care
(this will be a long read, but interesting and very informative, if you are even considering getting a PS3 jailbroken)
You've seen the articles, the buzz around the PS3 jailbreak being released. At first it was priced at 170$USD, and the distributor was located in Australia known for their rigorous anti-gaming laws and banning of any game rated over T for TEEN.
Well, then you've also most likely seen the reports of the developers being in a huge legal battle, and the actual product being outlawed. They developers of the PS3 jailbreak didn't really think on a marketing standpoint that bypassing someone's copyprotection might somehow be considered illegal.
Now what does this mean to you, the gamer? As of right now, there are atleast 20 different chinese and german electronic companies battling it out for who will reign supreme in the HUGE market for what would be required hardware and possibly software app to play jailbroken (read: illegal/free) copies of games.
Why does this differ from 360 or WII? The ps3 security bypass requires hardware to trick the PS3 into thinking it is running in development mode, for a developer. It must always have this appliance plugged in, until the game is launched. There are variations that will allow you to remove the hardware after launching the game (read: PS3Break).
What does this mean, overall?
It means competition. Much like competition between R4, Acekard, or other DS chipsets.
How much money is in this market right now?
As of right now, the hardware costs anywhere from 28 dollars to 50 dollars. Almost every site has been sold out, or in a huge demand. Thousands of these things are sold a day. You cannot buy yourself an ATMEL development chip now, they are sold out worldwide, even the developers of these jailbreaking apps cannot find this chipset. They launch with several hundred ATMEL chipset apps, then replace the newer models with PIC, because they cannot find any more ATMEL chips to make their product with. This is how in demand the product is.
As of right now, there are around 10-15 chinese brands developing their own "ps3 jailbreak clone"(this is what most people call it) for the ps3.
I could go and google it, go down the list etc etc, but there are only several worth mentioning for specific reasons. Many clones are half-ass cheap rip offs, knock offs, and basically a scam. Some are known to heat up, burn, and melt just from several minutes of use. So be very careful when purchasing one, because it might be a fire hazard, or cause damage to your ps3.
The main important ps3 jailbreak clones are these:
:PS3key
(sorry linking was bugging out)
Ps3Key is a german owned company, originally they displayed a fraudulant picture of what they claimed was their PS3 Jailbreak clone, and they said they were "working on it". They launched preorders, and eventually posted what would be their real ps3 jailbreak clone app, it looked nothing like the original.
This sounds shady yet? Wait til i get to the best part.
They actually own another jailbreak clone site/company and set it up so it would appear there is actual competition, and their own original site would appear to be the cheaper of the two.
Eventually this clone launched, and sold out within a day. Hundreds if not thousands sold out in less than 2 days.
What did this prompt the distributor to do? Start producing budget mock versions of their own hardware, and flooding the market with faux clone apps. So much that a reviewer received a fake version of the chipset, when he went to review it
PS3Yes
As of right now, they seem to be the "white knights" of the battle for control in the market. They answer all questions IMPORTANT questions (read: Is this ATMEL or PIC?) They provide their own source of bios and hex, are guaranteed ATMEL chipset, and come with automatic updates for their chipset. Basically the convenient, easy to use, user friendly, chipset that might be the popular one once the dust settles.
So far all I can see is not a lot of shady things coming from this company either, the only people actually marketting this product outside of the US are the distributors (read: resellers), and they are making various youtube videos and blog post articles copypasting the details of it , praising it etc etc. You can clearly see who is doing it, because they always refer back to their store , where you can buy it for the low loe price of...
PS3Break
Ps3 break... oh wow, Well First, it was legit. It was pretty awesome. It was something that looked like it would become the best in the market. Then it got popular, then they got greedy. I will explain the details and show comparison pics after, but to sum it up, these guys launched with one unit, and then shipped another. Anywhere outside of the shady market world of China, and there would be a lawsuit involved. They launched with the product being ATMEL chips, with reliable hardware, specific fancy case holder packaging, nice tutorial videos on how to use, etc etc. Then it was replaced with a "new and improved" version , which was worse than the original. Cheaper to make, easier to produce, and more "cost effective" than the original. Essentially they are charging 40 to 50 dollars for something that takes them 5 dollars to make.
ATMEL vs. PIC
I referenced this earlier, what does it mean? Well first, i will show a comparison shot which has been posted and reposted all over the internet.
The PIC on the right is almost identical to a USB harddrive. A storage device, not a development chip.
Now, look at the left side. Notice it is more complex, more parts, and looks like someone actually spent more than 5 seconds making it. That is the more expensive, harder to find, and way better chipset. It is called ATMEL. Why is it better?
The comparison is really simple, a PIC is basically a reworked USB storage drive, it is designed to upload the set of code, and then thats it. Its useless, you will use it to boot up your PS3 everytime, but if anything needs to be changed then you are screwed.
The ATMEL on the other hand features BIOS flash support, which basically means you can change the Operating system of the chipset easily. It is like if you wanted to change your PC from windows vista to windows 7, it isn't that hard right? Now think of the PIC as trying to change a MAC's OS to Windows 7. Thats a lot more challenging , and sometimes downright impossible.
Why does this matter? Why should you care about the difference? Well besides the part where you just read, essentially hardware will remain the same, the same like how you bought an R4 for your DS and all you needed to do was change the firmware every couple months. You cannot do that with PIC. You would need to essentially buy an entirely new chipset to get a new firmware update. The PIC hardware is a cheap and quick solution with no lasting appeal.
Why does it matter? Because distributors like PS3Break advertise a product of ATMEL , and then send you a PIC version. Its useless. You will be able to jailbreak your ps3 now, but down the line, you are screwed. Almost all cheap clones that are being distributed are PIC. As of right now, short of going out and buying an AMTEL development chipset and manually making your own ps3 jailbreak clone, PS3Yes seems to be the only legitimate and honest retailer.
Before you say i'm viral, or getting paid to say something like this, I am not. I have spent all day today researching this subject because I myself and looking into getting my PS3 jailbroken, for educational purposes.. yeah right....
I was very dead set on buying myself a PS3Break, until i read up on what was actually going on. They are sold out of AMTEL chipsets and selling their product as PIC but still advertising it as AMTEL. So if i went and bought one, i would have had a 99% chance of getting PIC chipset, which would have been a rip off.
I then thought about buying a PS3Key, it looked sleek, simply, easy to use. But THEN i read about how they are shipping out knock offs in place of the legitimate hardware, and charging you full price for it. The site is not even a month old, the product is not even 3 days old and already it is flooded with counterfeit versions, and these versions are being distributed in place of legit ones? Not to mention some sort of convenience issue where there are some files not supported on their hardware, and you must manually find this special HEX code and put it on your chip, apparently this is all for "legal purposes". But no other chipset requires you to do this.
And next was PS3Yes, the only actual legitimate confirmed ATMEL chipset still in existence and guaranteed to be shipping ATMEL. It is very new, and the chipset is actually special because it does not require you to do anything, it has self autoupdating software, when you put your chipset into your PC it will autoupdate the firmware. Imagine if you had that for your R4 chip. I will post a followup article when all this is finally shipped to me. What? Did you honestly think there was much of a decision after thoroughly looking at the facts?
The Bottom Line:
This was a very long article but overall i think it was worth it. It is very informative on the situation at hand, and possibly will lend to people's interest in the subject, as for me, it took me a long time finding out this stuff because out of like a hundred google searches and scouring forums for legitimate comparisons, there were only really 2 threads. These two threads didn't so much compare the product as they showed the flaws or illegal matters like distributing PIC chipsets instead of advertised ATMEL. Every single person that asked this question some smug jackass would reply "why don't you use search?" , and then the search result would yield absolutely nothing, because nobody took the time and effort to sit down and compare the products for what they are, at face value and in their company's situation.
You've seen the articles, the buzz around the PS3 jailbreak being released. At first it was priced at 170$USD, and the distributor was located in Australia known for their rigorous anti-gaming laws and banning of any game rated over T for TEEN.

Bungie are corporate whores, exclusive at 10!
Like hungry fish the gaming news industry reported a quote all over the web. A clear insult to any and all indie developers out there.
"Bungie are a very unusual company," Kotick told the America Merrill Lynch Media, Comms and Entertainment conference.
"They're probably the last remaining high quality independent developer. It's very hard to [pauses]... that has sort of has institutional skills and capabilities. And they're a real company."
Bottom Line:
Well gee, what a surprise! Who would have thought a publisher who bought a 10 year contract with the team responsible for HALO would suddenly start praising its newly acquired development team.. link

Another one bites the dust
This is an interesting, eventful weekend to start a "blog" like this. Today, the news is Good Old Games or gog.com has closed its doors. The only important news out of all of this is what they will due to prevent backlash, and this is their response.
"On a technical note, this week we'll put in place a solution to allow everyone to re-download their games."
So right now, you cannot even download your games if you bought them earlier, if you try to visit the website you will be greeted with another no-background, text-only website this weekend.
Bottom Line: Only a fool would have been paying people to distribute them shovelware that is technically freeware now, and its painfully obvious this would never work in any sensible way. Good riddance!
Update: apparently someone on neogaf claims this is a sort of publicity stunt, to go from beta to full version of their website and he references to earlier posts in the financial forums of the company to ignore this event in regards to investing. It sounds like it would be true, or it sounds like someone is trying to prevent investors from pulling out as fast as they can, either way, it will be interesting to see what happens.

Nehrim - An oblivion overhaul
This would be a good place to also spread the word on basically a free game that was recently translated from german to english. Its subtitles, but its worth it.
http://www.nehrim.de/startEV.html
details for those too lazy to read the FAQ on website, you need the original oblivion game and it has to be patched, this will install everything over it , you do not need expansions or dlc. It even has a loader that will check for updates and autopatch the game before launching. Its basically an entirely new game, just with the same engine.
Download is around 1.6 gigs, but its worth it.
To sum it up , basically what this team has done is rework the entire oblivion so that is resembles more like GOTHIC type gameplay with heavy emphasis on the RPG side; leveling up, training points, experience, enemies have health bars, the game itself is also full of scripted scenes and actual puzzles, the kind of stuff that actually effects the outcome in the world, rather than you just going into a random cave and killing all random mobs that chase after you wailing endlessly. One mission for example a ranger gives you explosives and wants you to cave in a mine and have it collapse ontop of a goblin infestation.
Want a free game to hold you over until your next anticipated title comes along? Here it is.

Profits, Losses, and Misconceptions.
This will be a simple explanation of how money flows in the business of video games.
DEVELOPERS DO NOT GET ANY OF THE PROFITS.
A publishing company will receive the profits of the product they publish, whether its a book, a movie, or a video game. Their job entails that they hire writers, game developers, or movie producers to produce movies. They set up meetings, plan deadlines, plan the amount of money needed to carry out these plans. The people they find to actually DO the project get paid upfront, usually as a one time contract based salary (read: you get the money when the job is done) In the gaming market, this usually equates to the developers getting a generic salary during the time of the development, and rarely are any developers kept on the team after the game itself has been made. Majority of the work is like building a house, you hire contractors, they get paid while they are doing the job, and when the job is done, they are no longer needed and so they move onto the next project. The heads of the company doing the development often receive incentives for an exceptional product, a good reference would be the details leaked over the Infinity Ward lawsuit.
Absolutely none of this should be confusing.
I will not go into the way publishers give "incentives" to video game websites to paint various games in a better light. Those are pretty much self explanatory , just go to any video game website and see how they get special limited edition games, controllers, consoles, viral marketing toys/gimmicky prizes. I will not mention any websites or their full page "special" ads they get.

Sunday September 18th 2010 - The Trial Run
Two items of big news
a- Minecraft server blunder
b-Dead Rising 2 xbox 360 leak
a- If anyone has visited a gaming related news site in the past month or two they would be aware of a thing called minecraft. Of course this sudden burst in popularity recently caused minecraft's servers to bust when they tried to roll out a new update, the server itself was so backed up that the developer himself had no way to distribute the game's update other than to release the update for free, on a stripped down, text only, version of his own website. What does this mean? FREE MINECRAFT for anyone, for the entire weekend. So if you ever wanted to demo the game, check it out now while it is still free. Just to reiterate to slow people, this is the FULL version free for the weekend, all features unlocked. This is the link to download the file and play instantly.
b-News event #2, would be the glorious 360fags getting their grubby hands on the leaked copy of Dead Rising 2. Originally, the PC edition leaked first, but it included zero day protection which locked the game itself to anyone that even legitimately installed it, until the day of release. But of course, like most 360fags , they got the game as well, and already are playing it. Good job publishers... first a leak 3 weeks in advance, now a leak today(sometime around 8 am) .
Now for a segment on my own personal opinion on the events (because as a gamer, i don't like it and im sure some other people do not like it as well when stupid news writers put in their own quirks and comments about a situation they honestly have no clue about. So ill leave that stuff until the very end. I'll call this part the
Bottom Line
The general purpose
I am putting this blog up here, I hate bloggers and general retards who like to listen to themselves talk, but as a gamer, i grow tired of pissant sell out reviewers doing anything to make a buck, rather than reporting on the real issues at hand. Also, as i am in a sort of a bind in my life right now, (cancer) I guess I need some sort of productive use of my time. So in the mean-time, i find this will be my first step in a long process, and maybe one day I will have my own mediocre gaming review site in which my opinion is not overglorified , but trusted.
who can say they honestly trust the people who work at gaming news sites? they think because their opinion is overglorified and worshiped that they actually are a part of the huge money making process known as video games. You will get people going on power trips, acting as if their entire life was the only thing that mattered.
I am not here to make money, or to profit off of page views. I am here to deal out the truth, information, and my opinion/insight into the gaming world. Its not just a kid's toy anymore.
-Also as a side note, i prefer not to capitalise my letters much, and grammar is thrown out the window. I dont care about grammar, and in terms of discussion it should be the idea behind the words that is weighed, not the format in which they are presented. I will start posting all i know as soon as i can, i will not give backstories or more details into my personal life. Games are all that matter.
